Supported Housing Program
The Supported Housing Program (SHP) provides affordable housing and comprehensive support services to former foster youth ages 18-24 years. The program serves to bridge the gap between foster care and self-sustained independence by offering financial assistance, case management, educational and vocational supports, life skills training, and clinical services.
SHP participants live individually or with roommates in one or two bedroom apartments scattered throughout Alameda County. The program protects youth from falling into homelessness when they make the mistakes that are part of growing up. Success for participants means that they: are caring for themselves and making sure their mental and physical health needs are addressed; have a stable place to live and a steady source of income; have an extensive network of peers and adults that they can turn to for support; are engaged in their communities; and have the self-sufficiency skills to navigate the worlds of work, education, financial management, and service agencies.

The program draws on evidence-based, evidence-informed and other practices to support the progress of the youth in the program. Crisis intervention and emergency support is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
