Our Impact
BAYC offers youth exiting the foster care system opportunities similar to those who grow up outside the system--time to practice living on their own with a safety net. By offering a continuum of supportive learning experiences both prior and subsequent to emancipation, BAYC programs reduce homelessness and increase achievement in education, employment and overall independence.
Success for program participants means that they:
- Are caring for themselves and making sure their mental and physical health needs are addressed
- Have a stable place to live and a steady source of income
- Have an extensive network of peers and adults that they can turn to for support
- Are engaged in their communities
- Have the self-sufficiency skills to navigate the worlds of work, education, financial management, and service agencies.
In 2009, BAYC:
- Provided mental health services to 70 youth.
- Provided housing, through our SHP, for 25 young adults and 7 children who would otherwise be at high risk of homelessness.
- Supported 55% of SHP participants in pursuing post secondary education.
- Assisted 66% of SHP participants in gaining employment.
- Graduated 83% of youth aging out of foster care from our THPP to a stable living situation.
- Graduated 83% of youth aging out of foster care from our THPP with an identified permanent adult relationship.
- Graduated 67% of youth aging out of foster care from our THPP with at least $1,000 in savings.
